The HYRAD Technology has great potential in all areas of vehicle motor
sports. The significance of suspension damping on the handling of race
cars has long been known but never fully understood. There is a complex
interaction between factors that include not only many physical aspects
of the car itself but also the preferences of the driver and the ever-changing
input from the road surface. The winner of a race is often the driver who
can get his car "dialed-in" and "hooked-up" the best.
The HYRAD Technology with remote control offers a great opportunity for
the driver to adjust
damping
to its optimum level. We recommend doing this during "hot lapping"
and then disconnecting the remote control for the actual race. One exception
to that is drag racing. In drag racing, one level of damping is needed
during launch and a different level of damping is needed at high speed.
HYRAD has been developing and testing an automatic remote control for drag
racing that can be preset by the driver for independent launch and speed
settings. An adjustable timer is also preset so that the shock absorber
settings will be automatically changed just after launch. A snapshot of
a prototype drag racing system is shown above.
